What is a camera diaphragm, isn’t it the same as the shutter? I’m starting out as an amateur photographer, and I’m stuck in the lingo.

A camera diaphragm is a device used to control the amount of light that passes through the lens of a camera. It consists of a series of overlapping blades that can be opened or closed to vary the size of the aperture, which in turn affects the amount of light that reaches the film or image sensor.
