What is a DRAM Cache used for in an SSD?

1. The filesystem index. It is THE most written and read area of the drive since it is consulted in most read or write operations to actually *find* the file. Having the index copied out onto a fast RAM cache drastically lowers operation latency and stops the SSD cells that store it wearing out faster from rapid writes.

2. Depending on size left in the cache, some small recently read/written stuff. It is statistically more likely that a file that has been recently accessed will be used once more in the near future.
