As stars are forming, they accrue material from their surrounding molecular clouds, but also emit jets of other material at the same time. The jets can ionize parts of the surrounding cloud over even incoming material itself; this results in bright radiation being emitted from the ionized material. We can observe this, and the phenomenon is what we call an HH object.
