An alternator is an electrical generator, typically found in a motorized vehicle. While the exact electrical needs of a vehicle may vary, the alternator supplies this electricity, usually with a battery as a buffer.

It is normally just magnets and coils, working just like any other electrical generator.

Without an alternator, a motorized vehicle is limited to only operate until its battery drains, while an alternator allows the battery to recharge during use.

In a car? It’s the generator: the engine turns it, and it generates electricity to charge the battery and power the ignition circuits.

An alternator is what gives power to the car , if you want to test its power you can have your car on and take out the battery , if it dies you have a bad one , if it doesn’t you’re good .
