Anything you put ‘my’ or ‘i’ in front of is ego.
As others have pointed out, there are multiple definitions. The original was freudian, and it was complex. Its also become increasingly unfashionable, as has most psychanylitic theory over time.
I think in modern parlance, its just a replacement term for self-image. If you say this is mine, its ego, if you say I think/feel/know, its ego. Anything that your mind attaches to as an expression of you or some notion you have of ‘self’ is ego. That sense of hurt you have when you lose or gain something, when someone praises or blames you, ego.
