I got a call from one of my insurances pharmacy technicians and I’m not sure why they would call. Anyone have a reason as to why they call people?

Some drugs require additional paperwork and authorization from insurance. This person makes sure that is all in order before the pharmacy filled or refills a prescription.

They coordinate with patients, doctors offices and insurance to get it done.

To check on patient information, let you know that you could get a prescription cheaper if you switched brands and to ask if that’s okay, warn you that the meds you’re getting are super expensive or more than you thought they would be, to collect your insurance info so it’s in the system. They focus on all the issues in the pharmacy around insurance, billing, etc. They balance your needs with what insurance will cover. At least that’s how it was explained to me. However some of these roles can have titles that don’t fit their job description so this person may be doing more work associated with the typical pharmacy tech which is counting pills, making labels, taking care of inventory, keeping the shelves compliant, etc.
