Radiation is the emission of electromagnetic waves, from radio waves to visible light, xrays and gamma rays.

A “black body” is a theoretical ideal object that absorbs 100% of all the radiation that touches it. Black things absorb radiation, we know that as a fact. That’s why darkness looks black.

The important thing here is that we either want to make things get as close to “black body” as possible, or as far as possible, depending on whether or not you want something to absorb heat, or reflect it.
