What is clutchkick/clutch kick?

It’s a driving technique people use in manual transmission cars to (intentionally) lose traction and make the drive wheels spin faster than the road underneath the car. The purpose is often to initiate a drift in a rear-wheel drive car that doesn’t have enough power to spin the wheels just by using more throttle.

While driving you apply a lot of throttle, disengage the clutch, let the engine rev up and then re-engage the clutch. Because the rotating masses of the engine act like a flywheel, the stored energy is transmitted to the wheels, and they will break traction and spin.

In practice this only takes a fraction of a second, so you’d just keep your foot on the throttle while stabbing the clutch pedal quickly.
