What is crystal?

All I really know of it is that it’s like a fancy heavy glass? What is it? Why was it so valuable?

A crystal is a substance whos atoms are arranged in a repeating pattern.

The reason crystals are valuable to us is because they are shiny and colorful. Humans like shiny and colorful things.

I have mined for crystals at a place called Miller’s Mountain in Arkansas, USA. Crystals are formed naturally by the earth. I don’t know much more about it, other than in key locations they occur naturally. A large crystal (six inches across or more) is called a ‘tabby,’ very sought-after.

I thought the term”crystal” was used because so much leaded glassware is cut & faceted like a gemstone or diamond crystal. is that not right?
