What is Dissociative Identity Disorder?

I was diagnosed with it but I can never get a clear understanding of what it actually is. I would really appreciate some help.

A controversial diagnosis largely bound to the anglosphere and popularized by the now discredited 1973 book Sybil. Large amount of evidence to suggest it’s a culture bound syndrome/manifestation of malingering in other psychiatric disorders. See a new therapist immediately.
