What is Entropy?

Not a STEM student, just a curious one. But I always struggled to understand it.

Entropy is an order of disorginasation. Every system will move by itself from an orderly state into a disorderly state. Imagine your living room starting clean, but over time it becomes dirtier and more chaotic. Entropy increases.

E.g. if you drop a cube of sugar into water, at first sugar and water are nicely seperated. But over time the sugar will dissolve, until it is more or less equally mixed with the water.

If you want to reset the system to its ordered state, you need to invest external energy. Like you activly cleaning up your room. If you want to seperate sugar and water again, you need to dry away the water with an external heat source.
