So all your DNA is capable of being copied and when parts of it are copied, those copies can be folded into proteins. Cells communicate by using signaling molecules like calcium, and if calcium (or other chemicals) build up in the cell it can activate the DNA to create more proteins! Which proteins depends on what part of the cell’s DNA is currently activated and what chemical is interacting with it. Using the muscles over and over can cause the body to produce more proteins by changing which part of the DNA is being copied but steroids can enter into the cell and act on the DNA without any or very little help from other chemicals. Steroids can be created to target certain genes and it will start to regulate the cell’s DNA without having the body do much of anything. Now, if you are working out intensely then you are already beginning to shift the DNA production in your body to create more growth but this process is slow and takes time for the DNA to actually make more proteins to actually change the DNA more to make more proteins etc. but when using steroids you are basically setting up the DNA to be more efficient , you are adding chemicals that have been known to radically close parts of the DNA that do not contribute to muscle building and open and expand parts of the DNA that do contribute to muscle building. You are helping to facilitate the muscle building process by activating all the genes that do so without actually working out. Then once you do work out, all the proteins required to repair and create muscle are already open and ready to be copied.
