What is identity ownership? How does it relate to a business/startup?

Writing a uni paper in an entrepreneurship MS degree, I feel like I get the gist of the subject but the more I read the more confused I get…

Is it basically who has the authority to decide what does and doesn’t represent an entity? (Business, organization, mascot, etc)

Like whoever decided that McDonalds needed a crazy looking clown and some knockoff Aqua Teen Hunger Force mascots?

Thank you in advance!

Identity ownership is the concept of being able to control your personal information and having the right to determine who can access it. It relates to a business/startup because it’s important for them to protect the personal information of customers and employees, so that it isn’t accessed or used without their permission. This helps to ensure the safety, security, and privacy of data and can help prevent the misuse or exploitation of data. It also helps to protect the reputation of the business/startup.
