What is importance of the vestibular system, specifically rotational head acceleration?

I can understand the need for linear acceleration detection for sensing gravity and stopping/starting movement. But I dont see the need for angular acceleration detection. If those 3 semicircular canals vanished from my inner ear, would I still be able to walk around and live normally?

As someone who lost the function of the vestibular system in one ear due to a tumor, I can say confidently that you need it. One thing that I did not realize until I was recovering and learning to live with one set is that in addition to balance your vestibular system and eyes coordinate to track objects when you are turning your head.
