Anxiety or stress stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, which causes contraction of muscles and increased muscle tension in the throat. You feel this as a ‘lump in the throat’, or what’s known as a globus sensation.

Aside from the responses referring to a metaphorical lump in the throat, it is possible for tumors to occur in the throat. Those need to be treated by medical professionals.
