I know very little of UK politics, but I like to read The Guardian and Partygate looks like this huge scandal. Wasn’t it just that Boris Johnson attended a party during the pandemic? Why is it such a big deal that it’s causing all sorts of political drama?

Most political scandals have Gate at the end after the Nixon break in and coverup at the Watergate Hotel.
Something no-one else has mentioned is that, not only has all this stuff happened, but the UK taxpayer is funding Johnson’s legal defense, to the tune of close to £300,000.
This is despite the fact that, before resigning as an MP last week, Johnson barely even showed up for work, instead going off all over the world giving speeches.
