Protein synthesis is the process through which a cell reads a gene’s DNA, transcribed the DNA into mRNA, and then she a ribosome translates the mRNA a protein.

It’s making proteins.

Proteins are made up of amino acids, which you can think of like different lego shapes. There are 20 different kinds in our body.

Protein synthesis is stringing together a series of these amino acids and letting them take on the shape that produces. The result is a protein, which are the building blocks of our cells and can do all kinds of jobs from structural support to carrying out chemical reactions.

Protein synthesis is the name for all the steps that have to be done to produce what is called a protein. Proteins are very, very small parts of your body thst actually make up a big part of your body. They do a lot of different things in the body, but you could say that proteins are the “Do-ers” of your body. They make your muscles move and they digest your food and they transport the broken down food from your tummy to wherever your body needs energy.

They can do so many different things because they come in many shapes and sizes. And the reason why they can actually all be so different, is because proteins are made up of many even smaller building blocks. And just like with Lego you can combine them into many different shapes and sizes. Well, your body does that for you.

That is what he does when he synthesizes a protein. For one protein he takes all short, red Legos and builds a ball out of them. And in that ball there is some of the food that you have eaten. And for another protein he takes all long, blue Legos and makes up long, springy constructions. And that’s what your muscles are made of.

I hope I didn’t ELI5 it too much.
