What is psychosis and is it genetic?

What is psychosis and can doctors predict someone may suffer from it down the line, like they can with other diseases or disorders?

Is it genetic? Is it possible that someone can live an otherwise healthy and normal adult life for awhile and then begin suffering from psychosis?

Are there early signs of psychosis or does it just happen to someone suddenly?

Psychosis is pretty general, it is just a group of symptoms not an actual diagnosis. (Hallucinations, loss of perception for self and reality). It can be caused by a wide range of different problems, of wich some have a genetic component. You can never guarantee something happens from a gene test though, those genes are more a vulnerability to such problems that then may appear or not.

It can slowly develope in life, it can suddenly appear after a traumatic event or injury, it can even be triggered by certain drugs.
