HDD is Hard Disk Drive – it’s a physical disk so is open to corruption.

SSD is Solid State Drive – it’s a more secure and faster way of storing and retrieving data.

A conventional HDD or Hard Disk Drive is a stack of platters that store your information. Imagine a record player with 10 records that held your favorite songs. And if you wanted a different song, the arm would have to seek the different platters and “find” the song you wanted to hear.

An SSD or Solid State Drive is a Micro Chip
Of memory. Everything is stored on that one chip. So there isn’t the time delay of switching from platter to platter looking for your information. The read speed is uniform and fast across all the information.

SSD do not have moving parts. Conventional HDDs do. Electrons move very fast in a good conductor so data can transfer pretty quickly. It’s the moving arm of the drive finding the data that is by comparison, quite slow.

SSD: Solid State Drive is a type of storage medium that doesn’t use any moving parts (i.e. like a USB flash drive).

HDD: Hard Disk Drive, a series of metal discs that spin with an armature that moves back and forth over the spinning discs.

As the SSD doesn’t have any moving parts, finding the data needed goes MUCH faster.
