A conventional HDD or Hard Disk Drive is a stack of platters that store your information. Imagine a record player with 10 records that held your favorite songs. And if you wanted a different song, the arm would have to seek the different platters and “find” the song you wanted to hear.

An SSD or Solid State Drive is a Micro Chip
Of memory. Everything is stored on that one chip. So there isn’t the time delay of switching from platter to platter looking for your information. The read speed is uniform and fast across all the information.
