Stress is a chemical called cortisol, and the body produces it to help with the fight or flight response. You would stop feeling stressed when you stop producing cortisol, from my understanding

To use a circular definition, stress is the body’s response to a stressor. A stressor is anything that is able to push the body out of its ideal range for some requirement like food, water, sleep, temperature, rest, etc. (homeostasis). Stressors can also be thoughts or feelings in the mind. The easiest way to remove stress is to remove the stressor, but this is not always possible. Other things that can relieve stress include lifestyle changes like getting enough sleep or exercise, therapy techniques (including mindfulness-based stress reduction), and medication (including anxiolytics). If you want more detail, I would recommend books or [videos](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bEcdGK4DQSg) by the neuroscientist Robert Sapolsky.
