This is a complicated question that is probably not answerable in the way you might want. I am assuming that you are talking not just about recording, but also reproducing audio. Every component in the chain will color the sound in some ways. The microphone, the recording medium and device, the amplifier, the speakers, the cables, and the room itself.

There isn’t one way to measure that performance, and in the end, it’s personal preference as to how closely the result matches the original sound.

you can record “raw” output from your microphone. The only limitation is sensitivity of the microphone. The file size will be large, and growing with using more instruments or other sources of sound.
