As title says why cant i just buy a big television and also use that as a monitor, what is the difference

A TV used to need a tuner to function as a TV (in the old days. . .an analog tuner, now a digital tuner). But as I understand it – everything now is pretty much over the inter webs unless you have cable – so maybe you need a digital tuner for that.
