What is the difference between an AWS template and an AMI?

Google search results are so confusing to me on this topic. Don’t they both help you open an instance using the same set-up as a previous instance? I know one has something to do with blocks, but I don’t even really understand blocks a lot.

Where AMIs is what you’re deploying, a launch template might be how it’s deployed, like the subnet and user_data.
