Well, given the enormous amount of mobile devices I’d say ARM is a typical architecture today. There is less old cruft needed for historical reasons in an ARM CPU compared to an Intel CPU, and the ARM CPU makers have learned a lot from building mobile devices that combine low power consumption with high performance.
