If its is a dry hacking cough, it is going to have a suppressant like Dextromethorphan. That is going to work by reducing your body’s ability to cough.
If it is a cought where you’re congested & phlegmy. It will have something like Guaifenesin. That works by thinning out the phlegm & mucus making it easier to cough out. Which reduces congestion, which reduces the coughing.
And then some cough syrups will have both
