Think of it like an airplane propeller, the normal way pulls the plane forward, if they spun it the other way the plane would go backward. Which direction controls how the air feels, when it blows right down on you it has a cooling effect like standing in front of a fan. When it pulls the air up it is more like standing behind a fan, it doesn’t make you feel cooler but it still helps air to circulate and pushes warm air down the sides of the room.
Fan blades push air. The direction of the spin either pushes the air up or down. In the summer you want the air to be pushed down and in the winter you want the air pushed up. In your example su.mer would be going right winter would be going left.
The long explanation is that in the summer you want the air pushed down for a wind chill effect. And in the winter you want the air pushed up so the colder air in the middle of the room displaces the warmer air out and down via a wall.
