The Fermi paradox is the idea that based on our observation of the universe, there are countless planets that should have the conditions necessary for life (as far as an atmosphere, water, habitable temperature) and countless time for them to have originated before us and evolved beyond us…. so why haven’t we found any indication of intelligent life?
There are only two major conclusions one can draw:
The first is that the conditions required for life are *much* more specific and rarer than we imagine. We are truly alone, or at minimum, simply the first.
The second is a little more unsettling: that it’s not rare for life to get approximately as advanced as us, but there’s a common barrier that prevents life from evolving into a lasting intelligent interplanetary species.
