What is the Hegelian dialectic?

I’ve seen it mentioned several times recently. I’ve looked it up but I need someone to dumb it down for me.

Hegelian dialectic is basically that each idea/thought (abstract) will create a reaction against that idea (negative) and when those things meet they will eventually create something better together (concrete).

It’s only by an idea overcoming critique that it rises to become something more substantial.
