So black holes have this thing called entropy, which is a hairy topic to get into, so we wont.
The thing is though, entropy is a phenomenon fundamentally associated with three-dimensional space.
When we look at black holes however, our mathematics seems to suggest that the entropy of a black hole is not related to it’s three-dimensional volume, but instead the two-dimensional surface of the black hole.
This would seem to imply that the 3rd dimension of volume is somehow…fake?
So the theory puts forth a mathematical framework for describing how you would “embed” an extra dimension into the universe without *actually* needing an extra dimension.
This is roughly accomplished by allowing the physical size of something (everything) to grow over time. As long as everything grows in proportion to everything else, then no one can tell that anyone is changing. But there is still an unperceived axis from 0 size to infinite size, we just can’t perceive it.
