Fuel re-circulation helps keep fuel clean and usable. The system might cycle diesel fuel or jet fuel through a water separator and/or warmer to keep it clean or keep it warm enough to flow freely in winter.
My bus uses a recirculating pump on the diesel engine. This instantly removes any air bubbles which is death to a diesel injector pump. It’s also constantly filtering the fuel to remove any alge that can grow in diesel (yes, that is a thing)
