What is the reason/benefit for a company to require you to use a full hour of PTO instead of .5 hours if that’s all you need?

I can’t understand this, and I’m so frustrated with it at work. If I need to leave a half hour early for an appt, apparently they would rather I stop working an extra half hour early, leave and have a half hour to kill before my appt. If it could make sense in my head maybe the aggravation can stop. Thanks.

My manager couldn’t care less if I take 30min to run an errand, let alone fill in a leave form. Sounds like a waste of everyone’s time. She says, “It all comes out in the wash.”

You’re overthinking it.

Theres no *benefit*. There’s no reasoning. Its just a consequence of whatever system is in place. Maybe a technical limitation, maybe someone doesnt want to deal with it… maybe half-hours mean pay rates have half-pennies in the system, and the software implodes (just making up reasons, no idea what the actual reason is)

Oh i almost forgot, my favorite and honestly most-likely explanation: a system was setup by someone. That person left. Currently nobody has any idea how the shit works or how to change it, so they just make a policy that everyone must deal with rather than inconvenience themselves and figure it out.
