Some people are very sensitive to sudden flashes of light. My wife is one of them in that the flashes can cause her to have a migraine. In other people, it can be more serious and even trigger seizures.

Photosensitive epilepsy. Flashing lights can cause seizures in some people.

Most people with epilepsy aren’t photosensitive, but it only takes a few accidental seizures (and lawsuits) to get those warnings.

Photosensitivity.

Flashing light is an uncommon natural phenomenon. We generally only see it naturally in lightning (usually far off and less bring/prominent from our perspective).

As a result, our brains haven’t explicitly evolved to handle that kind of stimulation. Most people *can* handle it. But some may run into issues.

For some people, it can cause migraines and headaches.

For others, the flash(es) can overstimulate their brain, causing an uncontrolled electrical activity that results in an epileptic seizure.

Contrary to popular belief, most people who have epilepsy don’t react to flashing lights. But there are epileptics who do.

Epilepsy, headaches, disrupting your ability to see what you are doing, and it can also be distracting to whatever’s happened when you effectively have a giant strobe light on you.
