What makes the brain remember some moments in life more than others?

I’m talking about very specific moments, for example I still have some really strong memories from when I was 10 (is 30+ now) and they are so strong that it almost feel like I’m there when I think about it. The thing is that they re not any special moments and could just be some regular day to day activity or play.

At the same time I had whole trips with the family, reunions, funerals, etc that feels like a lot bigger moments or milestones that I don’t remember at all.

So what makes the brain remember some moments more than other?

Not a scientist but I heard that depression actually affects your memory. So as a result, personally for me I remember a lot of the bad or traumatic times VS. I forget happy moments much more often. Also embarrassing memories seem to be stronger, but we fixate on those more
