In each joint there are gasses. These gasses can get released when the joint gaps. It’s nitrogen gas that gets released. The joint doesn’t fill up with gas again until 30-60min after you “crack” it

You may actually be re-positioning the discs between the bones in your spine. You can’t do it again until the discs have settled out of position again. I know this because I had to have 3 discs removed from my spine and the 4 bones surrounding them fused together.
