Like a gym full of kids who cannot move or talk but they all have spray guns to signal kids beside them. No one can signal everyone else. Only one kid can open a window to let fresh air inside for one second at a time. A busy place – where feeling someone spray you completes a synapse.

Neurotransmitters are traded between the two neurons joined at the terminal. This converts the electrical signal moving through your brain into a chemical signal so it can cross the synaptic cleft, then back into an electrical signal to travel over the rest of the neuron. Some information is lost during this process.

1. Electric signal gets to the end of one neuron.
2. Electric causes it to release neurotransmitters (signalling molecules).
3. Neurotransmitters move across the gap between neurons.
4. Neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the new neuron which cause compounding changes in that cell.
