What the hell is weight

If a 1x1x1 block of steel would have more mass that a 1x1x1 block of wood. I understand that. but then what is weight? I find it difficult to understand what weight actually measures. please help.

mass is (basically) how much matter you have there. Wood is less densely packed with matter than steel, so wood density is less (density is mass per volume).

Now weoght is a slightly different animal. Weight is the amount of force our earth pulls on the mass..The more mass the more weight, but different places on earth pull with different strength, so the same block may have the same mass, but different weight depending on its location.

(The true definition of mass is, how much it resists acceleration by a force.)

Weight measures the amount something gets affected by gravity. So on Earth a one kg mass object has a weight of one kg. But on the moon where there is less gravity the one kg object has a smaller weight, more like .3 kg, because there is less gravity on the moon.

Weight is the quantification of how much gravitational force gravity is putting on an object

Weight is where a mass is in a gravitational field exerting force downwards but it is being prevented from falling at the rate that gravitational force would pull downwards at. For instance, you’re standing on the ground. If you’re in freefall you are weightless.

So…………. if you have a mass of 100kg and you are standing at sea level on Earth where gravity has a value of 9.81 your weight would be 981 newtons.
