What would be the advantages and disadvantages of using car width tires on the rear of a motorcycle?

A car tire lasts longer and supports a heavier load, but is flat and does not lean (therefore turn) as well. This is something to consider with large cruiser bikes with cargo and a passenger going cross country, but not reasonable under any other circumstance.
