What would happen if we could zoom in with a microscope infinitely? Would we keep seeing more detail or is there a ‘cut off’ where we can’t see any more detail?

You can think of light photons as “pixels.” When the objects pictured are smaller than the pixels, the picture will not get any clearer no matter how much you zoom in.

Turns out that the size of these “pixels” is their wave length.

To be more precise, when the objects being visualized are comparable in size to the wavelength of the photons hitting them, the light photons no longer go in a straight line, but bend like waves.
