I’m not american/european but i’ve seen so many posts about foodbanks…. what are they ? What do they do ?

A food bank collects donated food and distributes them to people in need. They don’t really profit because they are charities by definition.
In general they are charities that provide food to people in need. A family who is poor or struggling to get enough food to feed everyone can go to a food bank, and be given some food. These charities depend heavily on donations from people or from companies that get tax benefits in exchange for donating to a charity.

Food banks are non profits that cover their costs via charity/donations or government funding. They also get their food as donations as well, and many people who work at food banks do so as voulnteers and do not get paid
expecting a food bank ot have profit is just silly(or a very US thing thing ot say).
Food banks are receiving donations to be redistributed to the people that need them. they are by definition a charity.
if anyone profits from them its usually the companies that donate to them, as they can generally get a tax write off.
