What’s keeping VR video games from being graphically indistinguishable from real life?

You are still in a video game and wearing a headset.
That said, I put a non gamer into Half-Life: Alyx and when the strider walked over top of the building he was standing in (balcony) he dove for cover. Fortunately he hit the cushion fortress and not the big screen.
