What’s responsible for my taste in food?

I tried looking up many books and researches, but the only answers I found were related to food cravings or hunger. I’d like to know what’s responsible for me being fond of a specific taste as opposed to disliking other stuff.

Your mother’s diet while she was pregnant affects your tastes. Your experiences in childhood affect it. Also your internal nutrient levels can affect cravings. But that relationship is not very “smart”. For example, people severely deficient in iron can develop pica where they chew things like ice or non-food items. This behavior doesn’t help their iron levels.
