what’s the biological explanation for crying

Considering water and salt are important biologically it’s kind of odd to see the body just kind of drops it out as a result of being sad, what’s the mechanism or reasoning behind this?

Humans are social animals. We cry, so others know we are sad, stressed, vulnerable and need help. It is one of many non-verbal informations we can give others.

Crying releases hormones that help you feel better.

When people tell you to “stop crying” it’s bad advice. “Keep crying” they should say instead.

Cry for three hours, it’ll exhaust you, and then you’ll sleep… but when you wake up you’ll feel better. If you just slept, the stress and tension would still be there.
