I was having a conversation about blackjack (I don’t play) and I asked why don’t people just count cards and the person I was talking to told that casinos can kick you out if you do that. Just why?

Because when done well, counting cards gives you an advantage over the house. Putting the odds in your favor. Casinos don’t like that. Hard to really call it cheating cause its something you’re doing in your head. Compared to say, loaded dice. But they do have the right to kick you out.
Though technically it’s not illegal if you do the counting in your head, casinos don’t want people doing it because it gives players a better chance at winning, thus casinos would lose money. One way casinos have fought against card counters is by using shuffling machines or using multiple decks at the same time.
