What’s the difference between a thunderstorm and a thundershower?

I live in an area where thunderstorms are very common. Typically thunderstorms contain rain and lightning/thunder. They are almost always reported as “Thunderstorms.” The only time I think the term “Thundershower” is typically used when it’s likely that the storm will produce mostly rain, with a small chance of lightning and thunder, but that term is very seldom used here in the American midwest/tornado Alley.
