Well the simplest division
East – is coast. Large cities, very mercantile and dependent on trade. Coastal weather tends to be less harsh – warmer winters and cooler summers. Very hospitable for habitation. Very wealthy population compared to internal regions.
South/Central – is very arable land, relatively flat. Good (mostly) tropical weather, lots of rain and large river systems. Generally agricultural and rural. Rather poor. Industrialized a bit more in recent decades. Major cities along the major rivers.
West/North – very inhospitable, mountainous and desert and grasslands. Little rain, few large river systems. Very cold winters. Not much population. Farther north, people live (traditionally) nomadic lifestyles because there is little suitable agriculture. Small population, livestock, not much farming. Undeveloped and poor.
