What’s the difference between Marines and Navy?

You know those old pirate or age-of-sail movies, where you see like half the people from a ship jump across to another ship or to the land, and start fighting? Whereas the other half focus on steering the ship and shooting cannons at the target?
The former are the Marines, and the latter are the Navy.
