It’s not degree.
That “°” means “proof”.
So 90° alcohol is “90 proof” alcohol.

It’s just how much alcohol there is by volume.
So if a drink is 90° it means that 49.42% of the stuff in the bottle is alcohol, the rest is water and other stuff.
70° is 38.44%
Basically divide the proof by 1.821 and you get the volume.

It’s like that because if a drink is at about 100 proof, you can soak some gunpowder in it, and the gunpowder will still light.
In the old days, that’s how they used to *prove* that something was alcoholic enough, and not watered down.
