what’s the science behind Crayola’s mess free paints/markers?

It’s called color wonder and they have it for like finger paints and markers and paints and can only be used on special paper but then doesn’t stain ??

The markers are filled with a specific dye called “leuco” dye. This dye is clear until it reacts with the zinc embedded in the paper. They get different colors through different forms of leuco dye.
