Everything on a set is labelled meticulously, and there are people (prop masters) whose jobs are excusively to keep track of props. There are separate people whose jobs are to keep track of equipment. Everything is plotted out so they know exactly where their respective objects are at any given moment. If they do their jobs correctly, the gear and props shouldn’t be in a position to be mixed up.
